Transforming former Coast Guard housing into a future mixed-income community
The Housing Authority of the City of Alameda along with their partners, Building Futures and Alameda Point Collaborative, worked with UDA, community members, and stakeholders to create a development plan to transform 12 acres of vacant former Coast Guard housing into an extension of a vibrant, mixed-income residential neighborhood with housing and supportive services for a wide variety of households. Through the community engagement process, UDA sought neighborhood residents’ input on connectivity, architectural character, affordability, and the services provided on-site. A series of colored sketches of different areas of the site were created with resident input to help picture the future.
