Urban design guidelines for a new citywide zoning code
Faced with the challenges of building a new city, UDA, as a consultant to U.S.-based Code Studio, prepared urban design guidelines to inform the preparation of a new zoning code for the industrial city of Jubail. UDA assisted in the preparation of a new zoning code that considers modern planning requirements with an emphasis on traditional values of Saudi culture that include shade and privacy. The design parameters guide a full range of standard building types and recommendations for expanding the range of public spaces and street typologies for an increasingly urban city. The preparation of the final zoning code is in progress.
