Greater Dunbar Choice Neighborhood
Transformation Plan that increases access to education, employment & healthcare
The Housing Authority of Fort Myers and the City of Fort Myers won a $30M HUD Choice Neighborhood Implementation Grant. The Greater Dunbar Initiative is a transformation plan for the 37-acre Southward Village. The neighborhood transformation will replace the 199 existing public housing units with 375 new mixed-income apartments and townhouses, which will expand housing choices. The plan will also include new streets, streetscapes, infrastructure, pocket parks, playgrounds, activation of the Fort Myers State Farmers Market, and market-rate amenities like a clubhouse, fitness room, business center, and on-site management offices. The Greater Dunbar Initiative will increase access to education, employment, and health care.
