Miami Chapel Choice Neighborhood

Renewal for West Dayton

West Dayton has faced historical segregation and continues to struggle with economic disinvestment, high rates of poverty, and vacancy. In 2016, Greater Dayton Premier Management (the housing authority) was awarded a $1.5 million Planning and Action Choice Neighborhoods grant from HUD to transform the DeSoto Bass public housing and the surrounding areas. UDA was engaged by GDPM to help refine the Renew Miami Chapel Transformation Plan to incorporate new initiatives in West Dayton. The plan included new mixed-income housing, linkages to community amenities such as the Boys and Girls Club and a new library, affordable single-family homeownership, and an employment hub with job opportunities matched to training programs.
